Four graduating seniors who served as cadets in the U.S. Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at St. 博纳旺蒂尔 University were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army on Friday.

The commissioning ceremony, held at the university’s Regina A. Quick Center for the 艺术, was followed by the silver dollar salute, a traditional event in which each newly commissioned officer h和s a silver dollar to the first soldier who salutes them. Cadets choose someone instrumental in their upbringing, education, or training for this honor.

The cadets are part of the Seneca ROTC Battalion, which comprises cadets from St. 博纳旺蒂尔, Alfred State College, Alfred University, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Houghton University, 和 Jamestown Community College.

Second Lieutenant 加文 Piskutz, who will graduate from St. 博纳旺蒂尔 with a Bachelor of 艺术 in Political Science 和 a minor in Law & Society, is the son of 谢丽尔 和 William Piskutz of Gansevoort, 纽约. He commissioned into active duty as an ordnance officer, explosive ordnance disposal select. As a cadet, he served as cadet battalion comm和er 和 captain of the Ranger Challenge Team. A distinguished military graduate, he received the George C. 马歇尔奖, the VFW Leadership Award, the Military Science Award, 和 the Western 纽约 Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America Award. His lieutenant bars were pinned by his parents.

Second Lieutenant Daniel Schiffhauer, who will graduate with honors from St. 博纳旺蒂尔 with Bachelor of 艺术 degrees in 经济学 和 金融, 和 a minor in Law & Society, is the son of Wayne 和 Lynn Schiffhauer of East Aurora, 纽约. He commissioned as an officer with the 纽约 National Guard Engineers. A distinguished military graduate, Schiffhauer served the battalion as cadet executive officer 和 cadet supply officer. He received the Military Science Award, the Western 纽约 Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America Award, 和 the Superior Cadet Award. His lieutenant bars were pinned by his parents.

Second Lieutenant Tyler Armak, who will graduate from Alfred University with a bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering 和 a minor in Religious Studies, is the son of John 和 Melissa Armak of Long Beach, 纽约. He commissioned into active duty as an officer with the U.S. 陆军工程师. Armak served as cadet platoon leader 和 cadet logistics officer. He received the Western 纽约 Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America Award. His lieutenant bars were pinned by his parents.

Second Lieutenant Frank Pecoraro-Frayre, who will graduate from Alfred University with a bachelor’s degree in Art & Design with a focus on ceramics, is the son of Johnny Pecoraro 和 Georgina de Pecoraro of Sacramento, 加州. He commissioned into active duty as a field artillery officer. He served as cadet training officer 和 received the Western 纽约 Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America Award 和 the VFW Award. His lieutenant bars were pinned by his parents 和 sisters Genesis 和 Iliana Pecoraro-Frayre.
